Best private Android cleaners without ads (2026)

By Antosha, the developer of 1Cleaner · September 26, 2026 Listings, labels and Data safety checked on US Google Play, October 2, 2026

A phone cleaner needs access to your files, so its advertising and data practices deserve a look. This guide compares three ad-free options and three popular ad-supported apps using their public Google Play listings. I develop 1Cleaner, one of the apps below; the other apps’ claims are linked to their sources.

What an Android cleaner can and cannot do

With All files access, an Android cleaner can check shared storage: Downloads, camera folders, documents and messenger media. It can find big files, duplicates, temporary files, logs and empty folders.

A cleaner cannot directly read or clear another app's private data, including its internal cache. Some cleaners work around that by using the Accessibility service to tap the Clear cache button in Settings for you, or to stop background apps. Android manages memory itself; force-stopped apps usually start again. Storage cleanup does not need a RAM booster.

The ad-free apps, one by one

1Cleaner (ours)

In 1.0.1g, released October 6, 2026, App Caches uses Android’s external-cache dialog on Android 11+. Folder-size comparisons need two comparable, complete and successful file scans, with the first setting a baseline; protected paths, Android/data and Android/obb are excluded. This is not an individual-file history. Settings can protect selected shared-storage paths from cleanup, but protection does not follow moves or renames or govern Android cache cleanup. The interface supports 22 languages; these three new screens remain English.

Choose 1Cleaner for group-by-group photo review, video compression and tools beyond files, including contacts and calendar cleanup. It has no app manager and does not automate Settings through Accessibility. Marked photos and videos remain in App Bin until you confirm deletion; they then go to Android’s trash for about 30 days on Android 11+, while Android 10 deletion is permanent. Other files are permanently deleted after confirmation.

Free use includes immediately dismissible reminders before scans and cleanups, plus 10 Swipe Clean decisions a day. Optional Premium removes both. Base prices are in USD, excluding VAT and other local taxes; there is no trial and plans renew automatically until cancelled in Google Play. See 1Cleaner for Android for screenshots.

Files by Google

Files by Google is a good starting point if you need a file manager as well as cleanup. Quick Share, Google Drive backup, media playback and a PIN- or pattern-protected folder make it useful beyond deleting files. Its listing does not mention similar-photo groups, video compression, contact merging or calendar cleanup. See the full comparison with 1Cleaner.

SD Maid 2/SE

SD Maid 2/SE suits people who want detailed control over leftover app files, storage analysis and app management. Its AppCleaner can use Accessibility to automate Settings taps. Some features need a paid upgrade; the public listing gives only a per-item price range, so check the purchase screen for the actual terms.

How to choose an Android cleaner in 60 seconds

  1. Look under the Install button. "Contains ads" on an app that reads your files is a reason to keep scrolling.
  2. Open Data safety. "No data shared with third parties" is the goal. Installed apps or device IDs shared "for advertising or marketing" means your phone is part of the business model.
  3. Check where deleted files go. On Android 11 and later, look for Android's trash, where photos and videos can remain recoverable for about 30 days. Check the app's deletion confirmation; Android 10 deletion can be permanent.
  4. Read the price before you tap. Google Play's listing shows only a range; the paywall must show the price and the period of the plan you are buying.

What Android already does for free

Before installing anything, look at Settings › Storage on your phone: it shows what uses space. Settings › Apps › an app › Storage lets you clear that app's cache yourself. Deleted photos and videos often wait in a gallery's trash or bin first; empty it to get the space back right away. If those built-in tools cover your needs, you may not need a cleaner. Dedicated review tools help when there are too many items to inspect manually.

One important Android app-cache limit

Does cache cleanup have lasting or measurable savings?

Apps can recreate caches as you use them. In 1Cleaner, the Android 11+ confirmation clears external app caches, leaving internal caches and personal data unchanged. Free space before and after is shown when available, without a per-app breakdown or an exact cache-saving claim. For individual internal caches, use the Android Settings option described above.
